Abstract
This paper is one of several chapters of a community based history project to write the history of Lamontville, a township outside of Durban. The history of Lamontville emerges as a contributing catalyst of African resistance and mobilization against white domination and exploitation to secure socio-economic and political opportunities to secure a decent living in the modern dispensation. The history on the origin of the township helps highlight the efforts of Africans from various persuasions to unite and confront white minority domination, particularly in Durban.
